The living standard in Singapore is one of the highest in Asia. Though cost of living is not very high as all essential items from accommodation to food and other are within your range of pocket. When planning your budget should consider these points:
Accommodation:
Most important part of your living there. There are different options available for you like making your own arrangement i.e. rooms available for public use for that you have to spend around
$300 - $500 per month(this may vary according to facilities provided). Or you may choose for University Hall of residence which could cost about $140 - $440 per month. You may also choose for private housing which is slightly costlier ($800) but then you can manage if you have anyone to share.
Transportation:
Transportation is very efficient in this country. You will find them from early morning to late night (6:00 a.m- 12 midnight). Moreover special grant is available for student. Main medium of transportation is train which is a part of MRT (Mass Rapid Transit). A ride in it costs 80 cents S$1.8 but with help of concession you can reduce it to great extent. You have to contact your institution for that. Also taxis are readily available in Singapore. They ply on road with standard meter which cost S$2.40 for the first 1km or part thereof. Extra surcharge is applicable in peak hours of the day which spans from Mondays to Saturdays, 7.30am - 9.30am and 5pm - 8pm. Credit card is also accepted with 10% surcharges.
EZ-Link card:EZ-link card allows both cheap as well as convenient way of paying bus fare. EZ-link card can be purchased and topped up at most MRT stations and bus interchanges. Each card is sold with a minimum value of S$10 plus a deposit of S$5. For multiple fares EZ-link card is a good option as fare comparatively decreases to single fare rate.
Moreover full-time students in public institutions enjoy concession travel on the MRT and public buses. Contact your educational institution for more details.
Food: Foods available in Singapore is one of the best in world both point of view of cost and taste. Monthly cost will be near about 300-400 S$. More time you spend there, you will find more.
